Is evil an external phenomenon, or a projection of humankind's innate capability of harming others?

levi15.jpg

One of the questions that has been burning in my mind for some time now is, is evil an external fact or does it arise strictly from within the human heart?

Many religions teach us that evil entered the world with fallen angels or other supernatural beings who brought it to us. They teach that these beings influence people to commit evil acts, but generally speaking, people are intrinsically harmless and benevolent unless otherwise influenced.

Others believe that people are quite capable of being evil and commiting evil acts, without any supernatural assistance.

On this page, we seek to discover which of these options is true: is evil an external fact visited upon us, or is it a part of human nature that we reject and then project onto "devils" and other external beings?

What do you think? Where does evil come from, ultimately? Join us in a discussion of this topic on the Seventh Moon Discussion Board. This topic is open to guest posts, so you don't even have to join.

The Seventh Moon Discussion Board

I resist the notion, now so popular among segments of our desperately flailing human intelligentsia, that beings from other worlds seeded our planet with life, or that these ETs abduct people for demonic Freudian experiments, or that mysterious dark forces, be they angels or aliens, control human destiny for their own petulant purposes.
